There
is a reason why every African Professional Hunter carries
a set of African Hunting Sticks (tripod) for the client; because
they are so easy to use and effective. We have improved upon
the very very basic "3 sticks bound together with with
an inner-tube" concept with our upgraded one-piece version
which combines the finest raw materials available with unmatched
craftsmanship.
We
experimented with various diameters before deciding to use the
5/8" size. While the 3/4" were more rigid and slightly
straighter, three of them were too big around to hold comfortably
and they were noticeably heavier. The 5/8" size was ideal
as they are comfortable to hold, much lighter to carry and offer
plenty of stability.
Using African Shooting Sticks is very simple. First, the shorter leg is posted out front in line with where you want to point the rifle. Once this is accomplished, you grasp the two remaining legs and post them at the desired angle and height. This action automatically aligns the two hide covered tops into a "V" rest. While this process is a bit awkward to explain, it is effortless to accomplish once the sticks are in your hands. Once you familiarize yourself with them, set-up takes seconds and they will extend your effective range considerably.
If
you are spending thousands of dollars on an African hunt make
sure you are ready to shoot off "sticks" when that Kudu
steps out of cover as a bench is usually not handy in the bush.
Metal tips at the base
of each stick are added for extra stability.

We
offer two grades which, while constructed exactly alike, utilize
different raw materials.
The zebra tops take you back to the Dark Continent regardless of the quarry stalked. When you combine the beauty of the striking black and white hide with the toughness of Hickory it makes for an unbeatable combination.
Hickory is 2-3 times stronger and much more rigid than the other species offered which makes it the natural choice for this application. There is a reason why a Hickory switch was the disciplinarian’s tool of choice in days gone by. Anyone who has ever been on the receiving end of a piece of this incredibly tough exotic American hardwood can attest to its tremendous resilience. We put a medium tone brown stain on this blonde hardwood to make sure it blends in with your surroundings.
It does not matter if you want to relive the excitement of your last trip to Africa while hunting close to home or if just want to get ready for your next safari. When we started Sporting Wood Creations several years ago, African Shooting Sticks were the only product we offered. When we returned from Zimbabwe, I tried to buy a pair of these to get ready for my nest trip and when I could not find a set of authentic African Shooting Sticks decided to make my own.
Craig
Boddington reviewed them in the July/August SCI Magazine on
page 109 and had this to say about them, "These sturdy sticks
have upper tops padded with sheaths of zebra skin, very cool. Mike
Rogers, host of the SCI Expeditions TV Show takes his set with
him wherever he goes. Order your set and join the fun!"
