1 - How long will it take to receive my order?
The quick answer is we strive to fill all orders within 1 week of receipt and usually ship things sooner than that. Occasionally, it will take us longer to fill orders based on the availability of raw materials. We do build a limited amount of inventory prior to peak selling periods. However, since we specialize in products which typically combine one or more unique, imported components, at times factors beyond our control make it difficult for us to fill orders as quickly as we would like.

If you have a specific availability requirement, please contact us and we will do everything possible to meet your needs or suggest viable alternatives.

2 - I want something not shown, can you make it?
Chances are yes. If you want a special piece and describe it to us, we will sketch it for you and will start once you approve the plans. We actually got started doing nothing but custom pieces. If you have not already done so; go to the Custom Order Gallery to see a few of our most recent custom pieces. If you want something made to your specifications give us a call

3 - I have never heard of any of the exotic woods used, why is that?
Our hand picked selection of exotic woods are extremely difficult, if not impossible to purchase in the United States "affordably" without buying large quantities. In additon, most people cannot handle that type of volume and do not have the heavy duty woodworking equipment or expertise to work with these extremely hard woods.

The cost, equipment required and the wood working expertise needed to convert these exotic woods into furniture limits their exposure.

4 - How do these exotic woods differ from domestic hardwoods?
Most of them are harder and heavier (up to twice) as Oak. This requires special construction techniques, extra heavy duty equipment and more frequent sharpening of the planer/saw blades. However, the end result is worth the extra effort.

The hardness of these species enables them to take a finish much better than softer, domestic hardwoods. This allows the true character of these beautiful woods to come to the surface. Our designs are very traditional as the focal point of the piece is the beautiful color, graining and unique characteristics of each of the various exotic woods featured.

In terms of cost all of our exotic woods are much more expensive than premium domestic hardwoods. Our best selling exotic wood costs five times as much as Select Oak. Our raw material cost is the largest expense we have.

5 - Do these exotic woods darken over more with age than domestic hardwoods?
It depends on the domestic hardwood used for the comparison. Almost every wood will darken with age. Exposure to sun light causes surface oxidation which darkens the wood. Typically, the redder or browner a wood, the more it will darken. The exotic woods we utilize will darken more than Oak and about the same amount as American Cherry.

Surface Oxidation is the reason why people who pull up an area rug which has been on a hardwood floor can see the contrast between that area and the rest of the floor (which has been exposed to sunlight.) The good news is that the majority of darkening occurs in the first several months and by exposing the covered area to sunlight you can minimize most of the contrast over time.

6 - Natural Variation
All of our products, whether they consist of wood, hide, horn, tusk, antler, etc. will vary from piece to piece in color, visual appearance, size, shape, etc. We select our raw materials very carefully and only the finest pieces are offered for sale, but since each one is unique, there will be a natural variation between them. You can order samples of "Trophy Room" exotic wood.

7 - Sourcing
Sporting Wood Creations LLC. only offers animal products for sale that have been cleared with US Customs and US Fish and Wildlife Services.

We obtain our products only from reputable, ethical and legal sources. We Obtain our African skins, horns and warthog tusks from a company that only processes animal harvested through government approved animal reduction programs. No animals have been destroyed specifically for our use. Our utilization of these natural resources helps support programs which allow African Wildlife to continue to prosper.

8 - I would like to put together a special program to recognize key employees/customers. How would that work?
Simple, contact us and give us a brief description of what you have in mind. We will check availability/verify lead times and call you to begin the process.
