African Yellow Fever The rare African Yellow Wood we use as the base on all of our “Nature’s Design” collection of products is indigenous to South Africa and is the only tree the endangered Cape Parrot uses for nesting. For that reason, these rare trees are given protected status. When the trees die and are no longer used by the parrots, a select few loggers licensed by the Government are allowed to harvest them. We purchase our lumber from a sawmill in South Africa that processes this beautiful wood from the loggers. The random sized pieces we use are approximately ¾” thick. This extremely dense wood feature beautiful pale oranges and yellows accented with beige highlights. How much character the wood displays depends on what part of the tree your particular piece came from and how long it has been seasoned by the elements. Cleaner pieces typically come from the middle of the tree. More rustic pieces usually come from the outer portion and can contain small remnants of the bark, hairline cracks and open knots from being dried in the equatorial sun. Even by exotic wood standards, African Yellow Wood exhibits a stunning, naturally dramatic appearance. |
