Bi-Pod Shooting Stick - Take Down Version

This new item came about as a result of a very favorable review one of the leading Gun Editors recently did on our three legged African Shooting Sticks.  He said and I quote, “The best sticks I’ve seen and used are made here in the USA by Sporting Wood Creations”. While he (and many other Gun Editors) has sung the praises of our three legged African shooting sticks, this editor (whose name shall remain hidden until the article is published) asked us to come up with something for those who are used to, or prefer shooting off a bipod.  We responded to his request with our new take-down bipod shooting sticks that incorporate the same innovative features, attention to detail and custom craftsmanship that have made our African Shooting Sticks such a perennial favorite.

Our new bipod shooting sticks are designed to fit into any airline approved gun case.  These are the most rigid, quiet and functional bipod shooting sticks on the market.  Our customers tell us they like the rigidity of them which allows them to lean into the shot, how the noise suppression bumpers eliminate the “dinner bell” noise made by the legs of all-aluminum models clanking together and how the hardened steel points on the bottom anchor them securely in place.

If you are familiar with the various bipods on the market then you will appreciate the innovative features built into our version of it.  Having said that, no bipod can offer the rock solid stability of our African Shooting Sticks (tripod) or the ability to leave them set up while you glass so you can have them ready for last second repositioning before taking the shot.

The heart of all of our take-down models is our patent pending, two piece aluminum take-down connector designed by a specialty fittings engineer who has over twenty five years of experience.  This connector features three points of contact for tremendous strength.  Putting them together is fast and easy as they screw together by hand without any tools in just a few minutes.  The connector incorporates a rubber gasket that compresses with the last half-turn to prevent them from vibrating loose when you are out in the field.

Each connector is precision milled from a solid piece of high strength, light weight Aluminum bar stock and is then sand blasted to a non-reflective, matte finish.  The seam between the connector pieces would almost be impossible to feel if we did not put a small micro-bevel on the two (otherwise sharp) edges that are exposed when the sticks are taken apart.

The outside diameter of the connectors is the same as the domestic and exotic hardwood shafts to provide a uniform thickness from top to bottom. We hand sand every shaft and then apply two coats of satin gloss marine quality polyurethane to them to protect them from the elements.  We turn the last 4 inches of the wooden shafts down to a ½” so they fit inside the connectors and use a hydraulic press that generates over four hundred pounds of pressure to permanently compress the shafts into the connectors.

We offer three of the finest kiln dried domestic and exotic hardwoods from the USA and Africa to give you a striking selection to choose from.

African (Rosewood) Bubinga is a striking rich, red toned exotic wood. This very dense and resilient wood typically has black graining intermixed through-out that provides a very dramatic visual impact.  This highly sought after wood was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal article about how high-end furniture designers are using it to differentiate their furniture collections.

African Zebra Wood hails from the Dark Continent as well and as the name implies is an ivory colored wood that has brown stripes running through it.  This wood is so expensive it is usually only used  in the form of thin veneers but like all of our other products, our Shooting Sticks are constructed of solid wood.

Hickory is up to two times stronger and more rigid than other domestic hardwoods which make it a great choice for this application.  We rub a medium brown stain on this blonde wood to make sure it blends in with your surroundings

Shooting Sticks come with padded tops. The rubber or leather tops make sure you do not have any fish and game related inspection delays while traveling internationally.

The Gold and Platinum versions come complete with a high quality, heavy duty Red Oxx Carrying Case in their signature safari green color.  The case is adorned with our eye catching logo and web-site address. This very durable case is designed to keep your shooting sticks from coming into contact with your rifle during air transportation.  This case would sell for over $40 if sold separately which makes the Gold version a better value than the Silver version.

We offer three grades that while constructed exactly alike, utilize different tops and woods and may or may not include the Red Oxx carrying case.

Silver Grade – Combines Hickory Shafts with rubber tops.

Gold Grade – Combines Hickory Shafts with one set of leather tops. This model includes a Red Oxx carrying case.

They measure 65 ” when assembled and the longest section is 37” when taken apart.  Unscrew them and you can use the top section alone for shots from the kneeling or sitting position.    Each set comes with two extra large screws with oversized, hexagonal heads that you can hand-screw into the top part of the connector to keep the cavity and threads free of dirt and debris. If you need to clean the cavity out, use a .375 or .416 bore brush. This provides you with two complete sets you can hunt year-round with.

We hope you enjoy using them as much as we enjoy making them.  You can take these with you anywhere so you can practice with them before your trip and relive the excitement of the hunt long after you return home.  Order your set today.
